Anne is a female doctor aboard an English merchant ship. Just when she thinks she can safely complete her journey, she is attacked by pirates. The pirates demand a surgeon. Ann is angered by the pirates' violent behavior, but she can't leave the injured man unattended, so she decides to give herself up. But if they know she's a woman, she won't be safe, so Anne decides to dress as a man and meet the pirates. The first pirate Anne encounters is a beastly-eyed man named Jude.
