The name of the series comes from a song sung while playing a traditional children's game. A "cooking"-manga that evolves around the workers and customers of the restaurant Fujimura. The restaurant is owned by the veteran chef Kumano.

Aji Ichi Monme received the 1999 Shogakukan Manga Award for seinen manga.
